ILOILO – African Swine Fever (ASF) has been detected in the municipality of Lambunao.

The town is the 26th in the province to have the hog disease, according to Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) head Dr. Darel Tabuada.

Three blood samples from a semi-commercial farm in Barangay Jayobo tested positive for ASF, he said.

“Sang June 7 may result kita nga na-receive halin sa Department of Agriculture nga may confirmed cases kita sa Lambunao,” said Tabuada in an interview with Panay News on Monday, June 12.

The PVO chief explained that before blood samples were taken, the local government unit received reports a few weeks ago of swine deaths on the farm.

The PVO, together with the Lambunao Municipal Agriculture Office, set the standard protocol and depopulated swine on the farm.

Gin-depopulate siya last Friday. Isolated farm ni sia, indi man tama ka delikado kay ang adjacent nila nga farm malayo,” the PVO head added.

The provincial government distributed disinfectants to officials of Barangay Jayobo who were tasked to enforce biosecurity measures in backyard farms such as putting up footbaths on the entrances and exits of the farm, changing clothes before entering the farm, and avoiding swill feeding, among others.

The other 25 towns affected by ASF are Oton, San Miguel, Alimodian, Santa Barbara, Leganes, New Lucena, Mina, Janiuay, Dumangas, Barotac Nuevo, Pototan, Dingle, Banate, Barotac Viejo, Ajuy, Concepcion, San Dionisio, Batad, Estancia, Balasan, Maasin, Badiangan, Dueñas, San Enrique, and Zarraga./PN
