ILOILO City – Containment measures have failed to stop the African Swine Fever (ASF) from penetrating the town of Mina in Iloilo province.
Confirmed that positive cases of ASF were logged in Barangay Janipaan East, Mina, according to Dr. Darel Tabuada, Iloilo provincial government veterinarian.

Tabuada said four out of eight samples collected from the area tested positive for the hog disease.
Initially, Barangay Janipaan East was included in the .5-kilometer radius around the index case in nearby Barangay Badiang, New Lucena town.
The local taskforce conducted surveillance and collected samples in Barangay Janipaan East on Friday, Nov. 18, and the results came out yesterday.
Tabuada noted that border control has already been put in place since the detection of cases in Barangay Badiang to deter the entry and exit of hogs and pork products.
Mina is the seventh town in Iloilo with confirmed ASF cases. The other municipalities are Oton, San Miguel, Leganes, Alimodian, Santa Barbara, and New Lucena.
Of the seven, three towns (Oton, San Miguel and Leganes) have more than two barangays with logged ASF cases and remain under “red zone”.
For the other towns, only the area within the .5-kilometer radius is considered a red zone./PN
