ILOILO City – The Assumption Iloilo Elementary Boys football team was crowned champions, beating Westbridge 3-2 in their last meeting in this year’s Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) football tournament held on Monday, March 26, at the University of San Agustin football field.
Assumption team captain Gab Peñaredondo tallied the first goal at the penalty spot on the sixth minute. However, Westbridge rallied and equalized before half time at the 35th minute.
The second half was more dramatic as Peñaredondo once again netted at the penalty spot after a handball but only to see them draw level with the score 2-2, when Westbridge also took the penalty kick on the 61st minute.
It was win-or-go-home for the Assumption team. With the score tied, a thrilling goal at the 61st minute was provided by Assumption’s midfield player Aiden Lee that sealed the score at 3-2, giving the school their first ever football gold in Iloilo PRISAA history.
After almost a three-year hiatus, PRISAA once again saw action. The elementary football competition was participated by Assumption Iloilo, Westridge and Central Philippine University. It was played in a double round robin set-up. The top finisher with the most wins and goal difference was declared the winner.
The Assumption Iloilo players were Gabriel Alejandro Peñaredondo, Xavi Amular, Aiden Lee, Kris Thomas Bomban, Che Rabbie Nain, Anton Almonte, Jaeb Dignadice, Shawn De Pedro, Lestat Maridable, Karl De la Cruz, Dame Cameros, Enrique Hipolito IV, Uldrie Barrera, Bueno Gonzalez, Oreo Jandonero, Niño Acebedo, Marcus Aguenido, and Ziggy Garverza.
