SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu captured the Small Basketeers Philippines (SBP) division crown in the Visayas Regional Finals of the 32nd SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
Ateneo de Cebu turned to Kristian Porter and Jared Bahay to clinch the 9 to 11 years old division title following a 57-43 victory over St. John’s Institute of Bacolod to earn a spot in the national finals this December.
Hua Siong College of Iloilo, meanwhile, took home the Passerelle 12 to 14 years old division championship following a 57-53 escape over Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Ateneo de Cebu opened the match with a 13-2 scoring run behind Porter for an 18-6 advantage at the end of the opening period. The lead grew further to 30-14 at the half on second quarter exploits by Bahay.
The Bacolodnons had a strong start in the third to come to as close as 27-34 but Ateneo de Cebu managed to pull away for good 51-32 on hits by Joash Cutamora and Vince Suico.
Porter, brother of Ateneo Blue Eagles forward Kris Porter, finished with 19 points, including 11 in the opening quarter, while Bahay contributed 14 markers for Ateneo de Cebu.
Dylan Despi, meanwhile, led the way with 12 points while Christian Yap chipped in with 11 markers for St. John’s Institute./PN
