MANILA – Former collegiate stars from rival teams Ateneo Lady Eagles and De La Salle University Lady Spikers will join forces for the Cocolife Asset Managers in the upcoming Philippine Superliga season.

Bannered by Michelle Gumabao and Denise Lazaro, the Asset Managers is expected to be a force to be reckoned with when it makes its debut in the PSL Invitational Conference on March 4 at the San Juan Arena.

Aside from Gumabao and Lazaro, also in the team presented by Asset Managers official Joshua Ylaya are Wensh Tiu, Therese Gaston, Erika Alkuino, Mika Esperanza, and Rose Vargas.

Ylaya added that they are recruiting more players to its team and the lineup will be finalized at the end of NCAA season. American coach Airess Padda of the Adamson University will serve as Asset Managers’ head coach.

“This is an attempt to break the barrier between Ateneo and La Salle players,” said Ylaya. “We want to show that even if these players were rivals on the court during their college days, they are still friends off the court and can play together in one team.”

Ylaya added that the team would be using the company’s blue and green colors to emphasize the unity among players from the two schools.

“These players want the sport to grow; that’s the reason why they agreed to elevate the game of volleyball,” Ylaya said. “These players believe in our vision and they trusted us when we told them that we will take care of them and fight for them.”

Sources report that the Asset Managers also attempted to recruit former Lady Eagles stars Amy Ahomiro, Mae Tajima and Jamenea Ferrer but were blocked by their respective Philippine V-League teams./PN
