MANILA – Ateneo Lady Eagles cruised to its second straight win in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball, beating University of the East Lady Warriors 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14.
Jhoanna Maraguinot led Lady Eagles with triple-double 20 points, 12 digs and 11 excellent receptions during the Saturday game at San Juan Arena. Ateneo consequently gained a share of the fourth place (2-2).
Madeleine Madayag chipped in 12 markers while Kat Tolentino and Bea de Leon each had 10 points as Lady Eagles dominated UE on blocking (12-8) and service aces (11-6).
Lady Warriors was very much in the game after pulling off an opening-set win but lost steam in the third and fourth frame with Maraguinot and Madayag spearheading Ateneo’s attack.
“I told my teammates, enjoy lang and focus lang sa game…kasi isang error parang masyado nilang iniisip,” said Madayag. “Sana magtuluy-tuloy na ito para sa amin.”
In the other match, Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws got back on the winning track after fashioning out a 25-23, 25-12, 25-19 victory over University of the Philippines Lady Maroons.
Heather Guino-o finished with 11 points, including two service aces and two blocks, while Toni Rose Basas added 10 points and eight digs for Lady Tamaraws (2-2).
“Sinabi ko sa kanila – basta huwag silang mawawala sa game plan at composure. Na-i-practice naman namin iyon at na-execute naman,” said FEU mentor George Pascua./PN
