BACOLOD City – Heavy rains brought by tropical storm “Auring” over the weekend damaged rice crops in Bago City, Negros Occidental valued at P5.3 million, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMD).
Several cities in the province were also inundated with floodwaters prompting evacuations.
Sagay City had the most number of evacuated families with 234, followed by San Carlos City (176), Escalante City (106), Toboso (66), and Victorias City with seven families, data from the PDMD showed.
Earlier, the PDMPD declared a “red alert” after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecast “Auring” would pass the northern tip of the province.
By Sunday evening, the storm gradually weakened and changed course, making landfall over eastern Visayas. It then traversed parts of Bicol Region on Monday.
“Auring” dissipated into a low pressure area Tuesday morning, although it brought heavy rains to areas in eastern Luzon./PN
