ILOILO City – From 50 new cases each day from December 2020 to February this year, Western Visayas’ daily case average of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) rose to 70 this month.
According to Dr. Jane Juanico, spokesperson of the Department of Health (DOH) in Region 6, from March 1 to 28 the region logged 2,222 cases – with 32 being the lowest and 124, 146 and 198 as among the highest recorded in a single day.
March’s figure is 28.07 percent higher than the 1,735 recorded from Feb. 1 to 28.
As this was being written, the cumulative number of coronavirus cases in the region grew to 27,148 of which 23,204 were local cases.
Meanwhile, the region’s remaining active cases stood at 1,715 with Iloilo province having the most number at 558, followed by Negros Occidental with 366 and Iloilo City with 334.
Bacolod City, meantime, came in fourth with 180 active cases followed by Aklan with (154), Guimaras (39), Capiz (24), and Antique (21).
Data also showed that 73.03 percent of the total active cases were asymptomatic, 22.91 percent were mild and 4.06 percent were severe.
