KALIBO, AKLAN – Consumers were warned against buying meat products sold in shops and stalls without permit from the local government.
Protect your health by avoiding such meat products, Sangguniang Bayan member Cynthia Dela Cruz stressed.
“Consumers should look for the mayor’s permit, the sanitary permit and the meat inspection certificate when buying meat products in any shop or stall,” said the chairwoman of the health and economic enterprise committee.
Such permits must be posted in areas visible to buyers, said Dela Cruz.
The municipal council committee expressed concern on the increasing number of stalls selling meat products along streets.
Such stalls may not be given a sanitary permit, the committee said.
That the meat products were from animals slaughtered at the municipal abattoir was not enough assurance, it said.
The manner of displaying and selling them should be considered in ensuring food safety, said the committee.
Meanwhile Municipal Councilor Daisy Briones recommended that meat shop owners be given an orientation on the violations they should avoid and the process in having the local government accredit their business.
The committee also formed Task Force on Public Safety, which shall hold thorough inspections twice a month as soon as the local government had inventoried all the meat shops/stalls in town. (PIA/PN)
