MANILA – Azkals Development Team (ADT) goalkeeper Anthony Pinthus completed the loaded roster of the United City Football Club ahead of its title defense in 2020 Philippines Football League and resumption of 2020 AFC Cup group stage.
The 22-year old Fil-Swiss, who served as the goalkeeper for the Philippine Under-23 National Men’s Football Team during the 30th South East Asian Games last year, was loaned to the United City FC by ADT.
“True to our mission of developing young players, we have signed Anthony Pinthus, on loan from ADT,” said United City FC co-founder Eric Gottschalk. “This was supported by (Azkals) coach Scott Cooper to expose Pinthus to the AFC Cup competition.”
The arrival of Pinthus, who previously played for FC Kosova, FC Wohlen, and GC Zurich U21, was a welcome development for the United City FC after it failed to sign Ceres-Negros keeper Roland Muller.
“He is the most promising goalkeeper of the Philippines after Neil (Etheridge) and Roland and we are happy that he decided to join us for this season, as we believe that UCFC is the right platform to expose him to top Asian football,” Gottschalk said.
Meanwhile, Gottschalk said that the United City FC is still in search of its head coach after it failed to come to terms with former Ceres-Negros mentor Risto Vidakovic.
“As for the position of head coach, we have prepared a shortlist of a number of highly qualified individuals and we will make an announcement in due time,” Gottschalk said./PN
