BACIWA: 3-day water service interruption to hit Bacolod

BACOLOD City – Several areas in this city will experience water service interruptions starting today, June 23 until June 26 due to emergency leak repair activity.

In its advisory, the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) said water service interruptions will affect the following areas:

* Burgos Granada Road

* Barangays Estefania, Villamonte and Montevista

* Downtown area

* Portions of Mandalagan, Taculing and Banago

* Barangays within Rizal and Lopez Jaena streets

BACIWA assistant general manager for operations Jenelyn Gemora said the low water pressure was caused by an emergency shutdown of the Bacolod Bulk Water Inc.’s (BBWI) water treatment plant to repair a major leak in the intake line and to install additional treatment equipment.

 “Due to shutdown of the bulk water, only the pumping stations of BACIWA will supply the water for three days and low water pressure is expected,” Gemora pointed out.

Gemora disclosed that some areas of this city may likely experience no water supply at all.

She explained that about 15 percent of its daily water supply – from 80 million liters a day – will be lost due to the three-day shutdown.

The BBWI has a contract with BACIWA to supply bulk water for 25 years in the amount of P1.1 billion for Injection Points No. 1 and 2 in barangays of Granada and Mansilingan respectively.

However, the Injection Point No. 2 has yet to operate./PN
