KALIBO, Aklan – The municipal government of Kalibo was recently recognized by the country’s largest business organization, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), as the 2016 Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit (1st-2nd class municipalities).
President Rodrigo Duterte himself conferred the award to Kalibo mayor William Lachica and Kalibo vice mayor Madeline Regalado on Oct. 13 during the 42nd Philippine Business Conference and Expo at the Marriot Grand Ballroom at the Newport City Complex in Pasay City.
PCCI president George Barcelon and Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III also witnessed the award ceremonies.
Lachica said “to be honored by PCCI with a prestigious award for the second year in a row is rare accomplishment for the town of Kalibo… this award demonstrates the dynamism of local government officials and employees and empowers the businessmen and enterprises to invest with confidence.”
The Municipality Category Level 1 award was given to Kalibo “in recognition of its commendable efforts in adopting and instituting innovative and best practices in good governance in partnership with the private sector, significantly benefiting the community and citizenry.”
Aside from Kalibo, the third class coastal town of Concepcion, Iloilo was declared the most business-friendly LGU for Category Level II (3rd-4th class municipalities).
Now on its 15th year, the search for business friendly LGUs, in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), aims to recognize the outstanding efforts of provinces, municipalities and cities in the country in promoting sustainable economic and inclusive growth.
The LGU Most Business-Friendly Awards is also the PCCI’s way of complementing the national government’s anti-red tape campaign.
This year’s theme “Giant Steps, 2016 and Beyond,” aimed to strengthen cooperation between local governments, the private sector and various other stakeholders to improve local economic services and to generate employment and local businesses. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
