Bacolod barangay execs face scrutiny for alleged drug ties

BACOLOD City – The City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) will begin verifying reports of barangay officials allegedly involved in illegal drug activities.

This development follows earlier statements by Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), who revealed that certain barangay officials are under investigation for allegedly acting as protectors of illegal drug operations. These officials have reportedly failed to report individuals involved in drugs within their respective barangays.

Primitivo Tabujara, CADAC focal person, confirmed that the council would conduct its own validation process, as it is part of their duties to ensure the integrity of local officials and investigate any potential involvement in illegal activities.

Tabujara also mentioned that if any officials are found to be involved in illegal drugs, CADAC will refer them for rehabilitation, counseling, and other necessary interventions.

“It’s important for barangay officials to focus on public service, avoid involvement with drug suspects, and never protect individuals engaged in illegal activities,” Tabujara stressed.

Coronica emphasized the importance of barangay support in the anti-drug campaign, as barangay officials also lead the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC), which plays a vital role in preventing and addressing drug-related issues at the grassroots level. BADAC is tasked with conducting awareness campaigns, monitoring drug activities, and coordinating with law enforcement agencies.

In addition, Tabujara shared that last year, a barangay captain voluntarily sought rehabilitation for drug use. After undergoing a month-long in-house reformation and three months of aftercare in Balay Silangan, he is now awaiting clearance from law enforcement agencies.

According to CADAC, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have confirmed that the individual has been rehabilitated and is no longer involved in drug activities./PN
