BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod here passed a resolution creating a technical working group to study the rehabilitation of public markets and the Manokan Country through a public-private partnership scheme.
Councilor Carl Lopez, author of the resolution, said several public markets in the city and the Manokan Country need “thorough rehabilitation.”
He cited the Central, Libertad and Burgos markets.
According to Lopez, the technical working group shall be composed of the City Administrator’s Office, City Engineer’s Office and City Planning and Development Office.
“The study conducted by the said technical working group must be submitted to the appropriate committee for appreciation,” said Lopez.
Lopez stressed that the public market is a significant economic enterprise which is expected to provide additional revenue to the city.
He also pointed out that operating and managing safe and clean public markets is one of the mandates of the city government.
“Rehabilitation of the most basic public infrastructure such as public markets will result to the improvement of the well-being of the vendors, and consumers, let alone the constituents of Bacolod,” Lopez said. (With PNA/PN)
