BACOLOD City – Barangay health workers (BHW) in this city are seeking the help of the local government unit regarding the delayed payments of their one coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) allowance (OCA).
Last week, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez discussed with 234 BHWs several work-related concerns.
During the meeting, the BHWs appealed for the release of their OCA covering six months, amounting to P54,000 for each of them.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod’s chairperson of the committee on health, Councilor Cindy Rojas who was also present during the meeting, said BHWs served as first responders during the pandemic and the Department of Health (DOH) provided them with monthly allowance.
Rojas added that pertinent papers caused the payment delay, and the city will coordinate with the DOH to address this.
Also discussed during the meeting were the salary increase and the need for basic training for health workers./PN
