MANILA – Bacolod BingoPlus widened its winning streak in the 2022 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League season via a 77-69 beating of Makati City MNL Kingpins on Thursday night at the Batangas City Coliseum.
Negrense Mark Yee had a double-double 13 points and 16 rebounds to go with three assists as the Bacolodnons registered their fifth consecutive victory to improve to 14-7 win-loss slate.
Alwyn Alday contributed 12 markers and six boards to be hailed as the Player of the Game, while Joel Lee Yu and Negrense Jeramer Cabanag added 10 points each for Bacolod.
With Bacolod playing loose to start the game, Makati City zoomed to a 19-13 lead with conversions from Kobe Bryant Pableo and Marco Sario but BingoPlus answered with shots from Cabanag and Lee Yu to cut the deficit to 20-23.
Bacolod took a 31-29 lead in the second canto on baskets by Kraniel Villoria and Mark dela Cruz but Makati City pulled away anew at 36-31 before BingoPlus racked up seven straight points from Kenneth Tulipas, Mark Maloles and John Pastias for a 38-all count.
Bacolod were blazing to start the third quarter with consecutive baskets from Alday, Yee and Ilonggo Aaron Jeruta for a 51-40 spread. Makati cut it to 46-51 but Bacolod pulled away anew as the lead reached 65-51.
In the fourth quarter, Bacolod BingoPlus registered its largest lead at 68-53 following a three-point conversion by Cabanag but Makati City responded with consecutive hits to bring the deficit down to 58-68.
Makati City came closest at 67-74 after an inside basket by Mark Lester Sta. Maria but a three-pointer by Cabanag with over two minutes left sealed the victory for Bacolod BingoPlus.
Pableo ended with 19 points, including three outside conversions, to go with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Kenz Rei Diokno and Sario had 14 and 11, respectively, as Makati City dropped to 1-18.
Bacolod BingoPlus finished their 2022 MPBL Season elimination round matches with its longest winning streak in franchise history and will wait for their final placing in the playoffs.
