MANILA – Bacolod-Master Sardines bowed out in the quarterfinals round of the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup first leg held at the Inspire Sports Academy Calamba in Calamba, Laguna last night.

The team represented by Alfred Batino, Anton Asistio, Robin Roño and Chris Lalata, suffered a 21-8 defeat at the hands of Uling Roasters-Butuan City in the round-of-eight.

The Bacolodnons tried their best to keep in step, but the Butuan City squad led by former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players Chico Lanete and Karl Dehesa along with Franky Johnson and Chris de Chavez was just too much for them.

The Bacolodnons opened their Pool D assignment with a 21-17 victory over Petra Cement Rockies-Roxas Zn of Gian Abrigo, Janus Lozada, John Monteclaro, and Roider Cabrera.

Bacolod-Master Sardines, however, suffered a slim 21-19 defeat at the hands of Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards, which was decimated to two players following the ejection of MacLean Sabelina and injury of Juan Gomez de Liano.

It was former PBA cagers Jose Antonio “Jai” Reyes and Gabriel Banal who carried the load for the Rice Vanguards to pull off the come-from-behind escape over the Bacolodnons.

The Bacolod-Master Sardines will try to bounce back in the second leg of the four-leg qualifiers slated at the same venue on Friday./PN
