BACOLOD City – A 32-bed athletes dormitory will soon rise in Barangay Estefania in this city.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez yesterday led the groundbreaking ceremony for the P12.5-million dormitory at the Romanito Maravilla National High School (RMNHS).
To provide a better and safer shelter to house young athletes of RMNHS, a new facility will be constructed inside the school campus, said architect Jares Encabo of the City Engineering Office (CEO).
To recall, it was Mayor Benitez who had proposed the construction of a new dormitory after he himself saw the situation of the existing dormitory which is not suitable for young athletes.
“Kay nakita ko ila dormitory, daw indi man ni dormitory, daw payag-payag lang sa kilid kag naluoy man ta sa mga athletes ta nga ang living condition nila parehas sina,” the mayor said yesterday.
The new dormitory will provide the athletes a decent living quarters.
Some of these athletes, he said, had won gold and silver medals in this year’s Palarong Pambansa.
“Hatagan ta sila sang maayo nga condition para sa ila pag-training nga magtahum pa gid,” the city mayor added.
Mayor Benitez also reminded the athletes that aside from their training, they should also give importance to education.
The budget for the new athletes’ dormitory was sourced out from the Special Education Fund (SEF) and the project is set to be completed in six months.
The new facility will have 16 beds each for girls and boys, with separate bathrooms and toilets for boys and girls. It will also have a gym, mess hall, laundry area, kitchen, and coach office./PN
