BACOLOD City – The local government unit of this city started to give a monthly allowance worth P4,500 to all barangay health workers (BHWs) here.
This after the City Council approved on third and final reading an ordinance amending Section 1 of City Ordinance (CO) 09-17-806, Series of 2017 or an ordinance increasing the allowance of the city-paid BHW in the city.
“A barangay health worker’s current allowance is not sufficient to cover the daily expenses of our health workers in the performance of their duties and responsibilities to the people of Bacolod,” said Councilor Cindy Rojas, author of the ordinance and chairwoman of the City Council committee on family and care development.
Rojas believed that BHWs are the front-liners who provide health care services and programs not only for the city, but also for the barangays.
Rojas noted that Section 1 of CO No. 09-17-806 provided that the BHW shall receive a monthly allowance of P4,000. Rojas noted that rhis was amended with an increase of P500 and Bacolod has a total of 221 city-paid BHWs./PN
