
BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) here has issued reminders for a healthy and safe celebration of Christmas and New Year.
Dr. Grace Tan, chief of the CHO’s Environment Sanitation Division, said the public should prepare foods which are not easily perishable especially during gatherings this holiday season.
“Cook the food properly and serve only the quantity to be consumed on that particular hour. The pasta or noodles, oil-based, and creamy foods usually perish beyond two hours,” Tan said.
She said leftover food should be kept hot if they are hot and cold if they are cold.
“Cover the food also so that it will not be exposed to environmental hazard,” she added.
Additionally, Tan reminded the public to eat moderately particularly those persons taking maintenance medicines.
She further advised not to drink alcoholic beverages when there is a need to travel.
“Drinking alcoholic beverages may compromise them, their family and the people around them. So let us avoid drinking liquor to avoid untoward incident, and let us celebrate this season with joy and happiness,” Tan said.
Meanwhile, Tan encouraged the public to wear facemasks when in crowded places or indoor gatherings as colds, flu and other respiratory illnesses are more common in this month or in cold weather condition.
Frequent hand washing is also advised to avoid the transmission of such diseases, she said./PN
