BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) encouraged all barangays here to reactivate the 4 o’clock habit, or the cleaning of surroundings every 4 p.m., due to the increasing number of dengue cases.
City Health Officer Ma. Carmela Gensoli, in a press conference yesterday, said the 4 o’clock habit was also previously practiced during the pandemic.
Gensoli said that in just a week, or from August 11 to 17, the city logged 192 new dengue cases with no death.
The city has a total of 794 cases recorded from January 1 to August 17, with three fatalities – 117.5 percent higher than the 365 cases with three deaths in the same period last year.
Despite the spike in cases, Gensoli said the city has yet to declare a dengue outbreak.
Data from the CHO showed that Barangay Taculing still has the highest number of dengue cases at 88.
Other cases were in barangays Bata (79); Villamonte (61); Estefania (48); Mansilingan (46); Granada (44); Sum-ag (40); Cabug (39); Mandalagan (38); Alijis (36); Tangub (33); Banago (29); and Singcang (28).
The CHO urged the residents to always practice the 4S strategy: search and destroy; self-protect; spraying and fogging; and seek early treatment./PN
