Bacolod CHO urged to intensify drive vs dengue

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) urged the City Health Office (CHO) to intensify its campaign, particularly its cleanup drive against dengue.

A resolution on this was approved by the SP following the report of the CHO’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit that a total of 2,617 dengue cases were logged from January to December 2024.

The said report further showed that the barangays with the highest cases were Taculing (274), Mansilingan (216), and Estefania and Bata (182 each).

The SP requested the CHO to provide aggressive approach in its campaign to prevent or suppress the spread and increase of dengue cases.

Dengue, also known as break-bone fever, is a viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people. It is most common in tropical and subtropical climates. The dengue virus is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female mosquitoes.

Earlier this week, the CHO has expressed concern over the rising number of dengue cases early this month.

CHO data showed that 22 cases were recorded from January 5 to 11 but no fatality was recorded. It previously listed only six cases from January 1 to 4.

The CHO reminded the public anew to continue practicing the 4 o’clock habit and the 4S strategy against dengue./PN
