BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) is validating the information from a social media post of a former city councilor citing cholera deaths in some barangays.
The former councilor (name is withheld) posted on Facebook, “may mga reported cases of cholera and severe diarrhea sa mga different barangays, and may mga napatay na. So sa mga ginikanan da, please take it seriously. More liquid, go to health centers/clinic ASAP.”
CHO Environment Sanitation Division chief Dr. Grace Tan said she will validate the said post, citing that they have not received any reports as of press time, aside from one confirmed case on Sept. 16, and the patient is alive and has already been discharged from a hospital.
Following that one confirmed case of cholera, this city has been on high alert status since Sept. 16.
Meanwhile, Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on health and sanitation chairperson, Councilor Claudio Jesus Raymundo Puentevella, said there is a need to intensify the monitoring of all water refilling stations, dealers, resellers, and transporters.
He said the CHO should check the potability of the community water sources to prevent the spread of cholera.
“If needed, we will come up with possible legislations for zero open defecation, including prevention of contaminating any body of water with both human and animal fecal materials,” the councilor added./PN
