BACOLOD City – The City Council tasked the Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH) and City Engineering Office (CEO) to repair and declog canals and drainages here to prevent flooding as well as waterborne diseases.

A resolution on this was passed during the Council’s regular session on Wednesday, July 24.

Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, who authored the said resolution, said the city is currently experiencing light to moderate rainfall caused by a low pressure area and will continue to experience rainfall due to the entry of the monsoon season.

He added that clogged, broken, unrepaired, or uncleaned drainages, canals, and other waterworks could increase the likelihood to cause floods.

For her part, Anna Pornan, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said that declogging and clearing of drainages and creeks are ongoing.

She added they recently conducted an urban flooding simulation exercise at Forest Park in Barangay Taculing, engaging participants from various barangays.

Representatives from different barangays actively participated, gaining hands-on experience in emergency procedures, resource management, and coordination efforts, Pornan said./PN
