Bacolod City councilor, wife survive ambush

BACOLOD City – The No. 1 councilor of this city and his wife survived an attempt on their lives after three unidentified gunmen fired at their vehicle at around 5 p.m. Friday in Purok 12-A, Barangay Alangilan.

Councilor Ricardo “Cano” Tan and wife Anita were in their Nissan Patrol sport utility vehicle when attacked, according to Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, Bacolod City Police Officer director.

At the time the Tans were on their way home from the family-owned Campuestohan Highland Resort in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

They were not hit by the bullets but they were wounded by shards of their shattered windshields.

From what the investigators have gathered, the suspects were riding a Suzuki Swift motorcycle, said Senior Inspector John Cristopher Masangkay, head of Police Station 5.

The gunmen overtook the couple’s vehicle, driven by Councilor Tan, before opening fire.

Empty shells of a 5.56 rifle and a .45 pistol were recovered from the scene of the crime.

Councilor Tan continued to drive straight to Police Station 5 to report and seek assistance, according to Police Officer 3 Matt Cepida, desk officer.

Superintendent Ritchie Yatar, head of the Bacolod City Mobile Force Company, responded and led the manhunt operation against the suspects, who were able to escape.

The couple were treated at the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital./PN
