BACOLOD City – The city government is planning to install solar panels in 16 barangays here.

The solar power system would help cut cost in electricity consumption, according to Engr. Loben Ceballos, officer-in-charge of the City Engineer’s Office (CEO).

Initially, Ceballos said, solar panels were installed in Barangay Alijis.

Earlier, the city government has allocated P100 million for the installation of solar panels in Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) and other government offices in the city.

The fund is part of the P4.4 billion approved loan of the city government from the Development Bank of the Philippines in 2023.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the project aims to reduce the electric bill of the BCGC.

The installation of solar panels at the rooftop of the city government center commenced last month and will be completed soon, said Mayor Benitez.

According to the city mayor, the solar panel system in BCGC can produce about 400 kilowatts of power supply./PN
