BACOLOD City – The city government is earning about P700,000 monthly since the Task Force Dakup Colorum, headed by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), reimplemented its operation against erring tricycles-for-hire.
According to Police Major Junji Liba, BTAO head, the city has gained much revenue compared to the previous years since strictly implementing City Ordinance (CO) 185 that regulates the operation of motorized tricycles and grants franchises for the operation.
More than 3,000 units of colorum tricycles were apprehended from January to May this year.
Liba said about 16,000 colorum tricycles operate in the city.
“Because of the ongoing operation, the number of colorum tricycles dropped,” he added.
Based on CO 185, a colorum tricycle:
* has no motorized tricycle operator’s permit (MTOP), which grants a franchise or license to operate
* has no plate number
* has no body number on its sidecar
* the driver has an expired or no license
The following are the fines for corresponding violations:
* for operating without the required MTOP or colorum – P1,500
* out of route P1,000
* driving without a license or an expired license – P300
* operating without the plate number and body number painted on the sidecar P200/PN
