BACOLOD City – To protect the riding public, the city government is planning to create guidelines for the operation of electric tricycles (e-trikes).

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he will ask Councilor Al Victor Espino, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on transportation, to call for a consultative meeting or a public hearing with drivers and operators of tricycles and e-trikes.

In an open forum at the Bacolod City Government Center on Monday, several tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODA) aired their concerns over the operation of e-trikes.

TODA members lamented that unlike them, e-trikes operate without the necessary documents like city government permits, registration and insurance.

E-trikes were only issued permit to operate by the barangays.

Benitez said a public hearing is necessary to determine the number of e-trikes to be allowed to operate.

The crafting of policies and guidelines will follow, he said./PN
