Bacolod city gov’t staff succumbs to COVID-19

BACOLOD City – “It is sad to lose her. She was a valuable member of the team.”
This was the statement of Bacolod City’s Mayor Evelio Leonardia on the 48-year-old Land Tax Division employee who died of pneumonia due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Thursday.

The patient’s reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test result came out hours after she expired.

Her remains were cremated the same day in compliance with the protocols of the Department of Health on COVID-19-related deaths.

“May she rest in peace and may the family she left behind be comforted by our prayers,” Leonardia said.

The patient was asthmatic and has an enlarged heart. She consulted a private physician on July 27 after experiencing occasional cough and placed herself on home quarantine.

Her swab test was taken on July 30 along with her colleagues for possible exposure to a co-employee who had tested positive.
“She started experiencing breathing difficulty on Aug. 1 and was brought to a hospital the following day,” according to Leonardia.

The office of Land Tax Division – located at the ground floor of the Bacolod City Government Center – was closed for 14 days starting July 31 for disinfection. (With PNA/PN)
