BACOLOD City – The city government it will provide financial incentives to its athletes who won medals at the Palarong Pambansa 2024, according to Councilor Jason Villarosa who spearheaded a related ordinance on this.

Titled “Pasidungog Para sa mga Dalayawon nga mga Estudyante kag Humalampang,” the ordinance sets the incentive amounts at P10,000 for gold, P7,000 for silver, and P5,000 for bronze medalists.

The method of distribution — whether per athlete, per sport event, or per medal — will be clarified after a review of the ordinance by Villarosa.

The ordinance aligns with three previous ordinances: the Sports Incentives Ordinance of Bacolod City (CO No. 880), the Bacolod Topnotchers Incentive Ordinance (CO No. 1006), and the Honor Students Incentives Ordinance of Bacolod City (CO No. 08-15-723), each aimed at recognizing various levels of achievers.

The inaugural celebration of “Pasidungog Para sa mga Dalayawon nga mga Humalampang kag Estudyante” on December 9, 2023, marked a significant success, paving the way for its annual observance.

According to Villarosa, the ordinances aim to streamline the recognition process by ensuring cost-efficient production of medals, trophies, and certificates, and by establishing a dedicated venue for the ceremonies.

The Pasidungog Committee, led by the City Mayor as chairperson, will oversee the implementation and monitoring of the ordinance. The awarding ceremony is scheduled to take place every December, with the exact date set by the committee./PN
