BACOLOD City – The city government will be taking action against the junkshop where several allegedly stolen telecommunication batteries were recovered last week.

City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. said the junkshop’s business permit would be revoked once the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) gives an official recommendation for the establishment’s closure.

“We are just waiting for the report and recommendation from the BCPO so that we will have a basis for revoking their business permit,” he said.

For his part, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez warned that all businesses involved in illegal activities would be subjected to closure.

On June 29, the police recovered 15 telco batteries worth P1.5 million from suspects Erwin Aribato, Romely Quiatchon, and Joseph Villanueva.

They were caught selling the allegedly stolen telco batteries to JLC Junk Shop/ILC Surplus.

When the police raided the junkshop, they found 136 more telco batteries valued at around P13.6 million. Representatives from Globe Telecom and SMART Communications confirmed ownership of these baterries.

Meanwhile, the junkshop owner will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree 1612, or the Anti-Fencing Law./PN
