Bacolod city hall worker axed, another suspended over admin case

BACOLOD City – A regular employee of the Bacolod city hall was dismissed from government service and another was suspended after being found guilty of grave misconduct.

The two employees were assigned at the city’s Office of the Building Official (OBO).

The case stemmed after a businessman filed a complaint at the City Mayor’s Office (CMO) alleging that the two employees, a building inspector (BI) and an engineer, were both soliciting money from his business establishment.

Secretary-to-the-mayor Atty. Marty Go said the formal complaint was filed on January 11, 2024 and was followed by an investigation for due process.

In December last year, the City Legal Office (CLO) recommended for the dismissal of the said employees.

However, they filed for a motion for reconsideration (MR) in January this year.

On February 13 this year, the CMO issued a resolution denying the BI’s MR following the findings of grave misconduct against him and the imposition of the penalty of dismissal from public service was affirmed.

The engineer’s MR meanwhile was partly granted.

“While his actions do not constitute grave misconduct, the amount to conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service which accordingly, punished with a suspension for nine months, in accordance with Section 50(B) Rule 10 of the 2017 Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service,” according to the CMO.

Go said the aforementioned employees could still file a legal remedy in relation to their case particularly at the Civil Service Commission./PN
