BACOLOD City – Lawyer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. has resigned from his post as the legal officer of the Bacolod City Government.

Ting confirmed that he is stepping down from his post effective today, December 17. He will be replaced by lawyer Karol Joseph Chiu, the former secretary-to-the-mayor.

Ting served the administration of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez since the local chief executive assumed his post in 2022.

The former city legal officer said he finished all of his works before informing the mayor last month of his plan to leave the office.

In an interview, Ting said he wants to focus on his profession as a practicing lawyer.

Meanwhile, in a statement released yesterday, Mayor Benitez extended his gratitude to Ting.

“Today, we extend our sincere gratitude to Atty. Romeo Carlos Ting for his invaluable service to the City of Bacolod. Since his appointment as City Legal Officer in June 2022, Atty. Ting has demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, and professionalism, helping uphold justice, accountability, and the rule of law. His contributions have been instrumental in our efforts to make Bacolod a truly outstanding city,” the mayor said.

He added: “As he now transitions back to private practice, we respect his decision and recognize the significant impact of his work during his tenure. Bacolod is deeply thankful for his dedication and expertise, which have greatly benefited our city and its people. Thank you, Atty. Ting, for your remarkable service. On behalf of the city, I wish you continued success and the very best in this next chapter of your career.”/PN
