BACOLOD City – This city’s Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) will distribute two kilos of rice to every registered resident.
The city declared a state of calamity following four days of incessant rains due to Typhoon “Goring”-enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat.
“Tungod sa baha nga natabo last week, nag-procure kita bugas para sa tanan nga registered residents sa siyudad. Wala pinilian, all 18 years old and above makabaton,” said Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.
Flooding affected 33 out of its 61 barangays.
“Kay tuod man, indi lang ang ara sa evacuation centers ang naapektuhan sang baha kundi tanan kita,” the mayor added.
Distribution will be on Sept. 9 and 10 in schools around the city.
The city government reminded incumbent barangay officials and barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) candidates that they are not allowed to distribute or be within the area of distribution.
According to Benitez, a voter’s list from the Commission on Elections will be used to determine if the recipients are indeed residents of Bacolod.
The mayor added that the city had prepared 14,000 sacks of rice from the P48 million calamity fund.
Data showed 32 houses were destroyed and 186 were damaged.
Financial assistance will also be given to them, according to DSSD head Sally Abelarde.
Destroyed houses will receive P15,000 in aid per family, while those with damaged houses will receive P10,000 per family./PN
