Bacolod City suspends towing ordinance

BACOLOD City – The city government temporarily suspended the implementation of City Ordinance (CO) 818, or an ordinance establishing tow-away zones in various streets here.

The Metro Towing Services (MTS), for the meantime, cannot tow vehicles violating the said ordinance pending the signing for the renewal of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the said firm and the city government, according to Councilor Al Espino, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on transportation and traffic.

The councilor said the SP received this week the request of the City Mayor’s Office (CMO) to grant the city’s chief executive the authority to sign the contract with the private firm.

He said his committee will examine first the ordinance vis-a-vis the contract submitted to the SP and he is hoping they would tackle the contract renewal during next week’s regular session.

The MTS contract had lapsed on December 31, 2024 and had since been awaiting for the renewal of its contract with the city.

Meanwhile, Espino clarified that the implementation of the aforementioned ordinance does not limit to one company only.

Any company that would want to transact is welcome as long as it complied with all the requirements for the accreditation as required under the ordinance, he added./PN
