BACOLOD City – The city government will form a contingency plan that provides measures to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia has issued an executive order constituting the “Task Force El Niño” to enhance inter-agency coordination in the formulation and implementation of measures addressing the concerns associated to the prolonged dry spell.
The contingency plan will include measures to address shortage in water supply, reduce damage to agricultural crops and prevent the occurrence of diseases due to extreme heat.
“A coordinated effort must be undertaken to minimize El Niño’s adverse effects on our people,” the mayor stressed.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office executive assistant Jose Maria Vargas said the body will submit plans and recommendations next week.
The Task Force El Niño will ensure timely and effective implementation of the mitigating plan.
It will also conduct a massive information campaign to educate the public and the needed interventions to reduce El Niño’s expected adverse impact. /PN
