
BACOLOD City – This will play host to this year’s International Mask Arts and Culture Organization (IMACO) conference slated November 5 to 8.
IMACO is a cluster of international festivals that highlights the mask culture and tradition from 56 countries.
Designed to preserve the mask arts, and provide opportunity to share various cultural values, the mask conference is expected to convene 200 delegates from the member-countries.
The four-day gathering is themed, “Inside and Outside of Mask Culture: Masks, Practice, and Culture.”
As part of the preparations, the IMACO officials and staff along with the Bacolod City Organizing Committee led by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, held a coordination meeting at the Bacolod City Government Center.
During the meeting, Secretary-General
Kil Sang Yoo referred to the Bacolod conference as one of IMACO’s huge events,
hence, the organizers are set to conduct unique activities.
The IMACO International Conference is supported by United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of
Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and Cultural Heritage Administration of the
Republic of Korea, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and Andong City.
To note, it was in 2017 when Bacolod City Mayor Leonardia signed a memorandum of understanding with IMACO president Kweon Young-sae to host the biennial conference during the 6th IMACO International Conference in Vientiane, Laos. (With a report form PIA/PN)
