BACOLOD City – The city government will focus its drug-clearing operations in five barangays.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Barangays 5, 24, 27, 41, and Alangilan will be the focal area of the operations for these villages are easy to be declared drug-free.
Leonardia said on Monday he will call a meeting with the officials of the concerned villages to ask their cooperation in planning out measures to mitigate drug infestation.
Records of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) showed that 100 percent of in Bacolod villages are drug-infested.
“All barangays in Bacolod City were found to have been affected by drugs and only few areas were classified as “moderately affected” in terms of categorization,” said PDEA-Western Visayas director Alex Tablate.
Tablate said the illegal drug pushers need to be rehabilitated in the Balay Silangan which currently being restored.
“Once Balay Silangan is done, all drug surrenderers will be gathered there for rehabilitation,” Tablate said.
Balay Silangan, a national drug reformation program, offers temporary refuge with the objection of reforming drug offenders into self-sufficient and law-abiding members of the society.
The city government will conduct rebidding of the P35 million Bacolod City Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center project on March 25./PN
