BACOLOD City – Joseph Delos Santos, the No. 2 councilman of Barangay 16, assumed as the new punong barangay following the death of village chief Erwin Arela.
Arela – the No. 1 councilman who also took over the punong barangay position replacing Nelson Ligaya Jr. who was shot to death in December 2018 – died of cardiac arrest on July 3.
Lady Gles Pallen, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, said Arela went to Manila last week for a medical checkup.
He was at the airport bound for Bacolod when he got a cardiac arrest, Pallen added.
The Liga ng mga Barangay will extend financial assistance to Arela’s family.
Pallen said Arela was a dedicated person who had “a good heart in serving the people.”/PN
