MANILA – Genesis Servania aims to sustain his winning streak this year when he fights Mexican Carlos Carlson on Friday night (Saturday in Manila) at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
A native of Bacolod City, Servania has won twice since his close unanimous-decision loss to Mexican Oscar Valdez in last year’s WBO featherweight bout.
Servania, who is currently under contract with Top Rank Promotions of Bob Arum, said he wants to make an impressive showing against Carlson in the hope of earning another world title fight.
“This would be a warm-up fight but, even if that’s the case, I want to have an impressive win,” Servania told Panay News. “I don’t have any idea when the big one is but I will be patient.”
Carlson, on the other hand, is best known for losing in a WBC bantamweight fight against Shinsuke Yamanaka in March 2017. Since then the Mexican has gone 1-2 in his last three matches.
The 27-year-old Servania currently has a 31-1-0 win-loss-draw record, with 14 knockout victories, while the 28-year-old Carlson has a 23-4-0 slate, including 14 stoppage wins.
The Servania-Carlson match is a co-main event of Filipino fighter Jerwin Ancajas’ sixth IBF super flyweight title defense against Alejandro Barrios of Mexico./PN
