Bacolod commemorates 128th Rizal Day

BACOLOD City – The city government here has joined the Filipino nation in honoring the 128th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal on Monday, December 30.

With the theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Buhay at Aral Aming Nilalandas,” the city’s commemoration held at the Rizal Elementary School underscores Rizal’s enduring relevance in the nation’s journey toward progress, unity and transformation.

It highlighted the Filipino spirit through a series of solemn and patriotic activities, with the Philippine flag presented with dignity, symbolizing national pride and unity.

The program also featured a heartwarming dramatization titled “Ina sa Anak: Pagmamahal na Walang Kapantay,” directed by Julius P. Esparas, written by Kitehie G. Totisano, and performed by Rizal Elementary School students.

The second part of the program centered on honoring Rizal through a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at his monument.

Councilors Thaddy Sayson, Em Ang and Atty. Renecito Novero led the tribute together with Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the Bacolod City Police Office(BCPO), Barangay 34 captain Teodoro Heaton Yulo, city government department heads, Department of Education officials, civic organizations, and other government agencies.

Adding to the solemnity of the event was a 21-gun salute led by the BCPO, symbolizing the city’s highest respect for the life and legacy of Rizal.

The event concluded with a rendition of “O Bayan Ko, Bayang Pinapangarap” by renowned composer Ryan Cayabyab, performed by the Rizal Elementary School faculty./PN
