BACOLOD City – This city commemorated the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan yesterday with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of the Unknown Soldiers at the Bacolod City public plaza.
With the theme, “Kabayanihan ng Beterano: Sandigan ng Kaunlaran ng Bagong Pilipinas,” the ceremony highlighted the heroism, patriotism, and unwavering courage of our World War II veterans who valiantly defended the country’s freedom.
According to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) led by Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, the said activity underscored the unwavering respect and commitment to preserving the legacy of our heroes and instilling the values of bravery and nationalism among the current and future generations.
“The event stands as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to uphold and honor the ideals for which our veterans stood — and to ensure that their sacrifices continue to inspire our journey toward a stronger and freer nation,” the BCPO added.
For his part, Cong. Greg Gasataya said April 9 is not just a simple day of remembrance: “It is a powerful and vibrant reminder of courage, sacrifice, and love for the country demonstrated by our ancestors and fellow Filipinos who fought for our independence.”
He added: “Araw ng Kagitingan is also an opportunity for us to reflect on our own courage and loyalty to our nation. Despite the challenges and trials we face today, this day encourages us to be ready to sacrifice and work hard for the benefit of the greater good and future generations.”/PN
