Bacolod Council calls for action vs viral exanthem

BACOLOD City – In response to the situation at Negros Occidental High School (NOHS), where 32 students were infected with viral exanthem, commonly known as “makayha,” Bacolod City’s Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has urged local health and education departments to ramp up measures to prevent the disease’s spread.

Viral exanthem, often linked to viral infections, manifests as rashes, bumps, or blotches that can be contagious.

Concerned about the implications for public health, especially in classroom settings, Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, who chairs the SP’s health committee, authored a resolution calling on the City Health Office (CHO) and the Department of Education’s Bacolod Division to implement enhanced surveillance and preventive strategies.

The resolution emphasizes the need for proper information dissemination and robust precautionary measures to manage and mitigate the threat posed by viral exanthem.

It also recommended that students showing symptoms of the skin condition should stay home until they are cleared by a physician to return to school, in line with efforts to contain the outbreak./PN
