BACOLOD City – Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran has denied the alleged arising faction amid the newly elected councilors under Grupo Progreso (GP).
“I have no idea about the issue between them,” explained Familiaran.
GP councilors reportedly divided themselves into two groups, squabbling for the “juicy” chairmanship at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), which is the Committee on Appropriations and Finance.
In the recent May midterm elections, 11 GP bets have taken their oath as SP members.
A reliable source from the camp of GP, who asked for anonymity, said five councilors have formed their own group, opposing another faction composed of eight members.
Familiaran said he will meet the 13 councilors on June 29 to assign committee assignments.
“I’m planning to invite them, if all of them are available to discuss our inaugural session and committee assignments,” he added.
According to the vice mayor, SP’s fresh set of members will adopt a new set of internal rules starting July 3 during the inaugural session. Each member will be allowed to have additional committees or reduce the number of existing ones, noted Familirian. They will also assign committee chairmanships.
The SP has 31 existing committees and each councilor is entitled to chair at least two committees.
Other graduating SP members are councilors Em Ang and Sonya Verdeflor./PN
