Bacolod councilor punches colleague at session hall

BACOLOD City – Councilor Jesus Claudio “Kalaw” Puentevella punched fellow Councilor Dindo Ramos at the session hall inside the Bacolod City Government Center yesterday.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) was having a recess from its regular session when Puentevella hit Ramos on the face.

Prior to this, the two councilors engaged in a heated debate regarding an urgent matter the SP has to act on in relation to the city government’s proposed sanitary service contract with the IPM Construction and Development Corp.

Due to the tension from the debate, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran called for a break.

Ramos said he was shocked when Puentevella attacked him. He added that he will file a complaint against Puentevella before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Councilor Caesar Distrito – chairman of the SP committee on laws, ordinances and good government – said it was the first time such incident happened at the SP session hall.

“It was unprecedented. There were instances of shouting before but there was no physical violence among members of the council,” Distrito added.

Distrito and Familiaran said under the SP Internal Rules, Puentevella must be reprimanded for what he did.

Puentevella was excluded from the regular session after he punched Ramos that day. The SP session then resumed.

Panay News tried to reach Puentevella for comment but to no avail./PN

  1. The culprit should have chosen a different path career. He could have joined a boxing match to promote the city government sports project rather than being a public servant. Believe me you have a great potential dude. I can see a Manny Pacquioa in you. Promise.
