Bacolod daycare ordinance hurdles 1st council reading

BACOLOD City – The City Council approved in first reading an ordinance granting gratuity benefits to qualified and accredited day care workers in the city.

Councilor Em Ang, author of the “Bacolod day care worker ordinance”, said early childhood development workers are the forefront of the city’s effort in ensuring adequate care, protection and education to the children.

“The city government recognizes the day care workers’ critical role in nurturing, protecting and educating the youth”, said Ang.

She stressed it is fitting and proper to improve the social well-being and economic welfare of day care workers by providing them additional benefit such as retirement assistance.

The proposed ordinance shall cover all accredited day care workers who are not holding a permanent government position.

The mandatory age for end of service will be 65 years old with extension of 75 years old and subjected to the Civil Service rules and regulations and other pertinent laws.

The councilor noted the gratuity benefits will based on the length of service of the child worker.

The beneficiaries will avail themselves of P1,000 cash incentive for 20 to 29 years in service; P1,250 for 30 to 39 years and P1,500 for 40 years and above./PN
