BACOLOD City – The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) continues de-clogging drainages in the metro.
The de-clogging activities are aimed at preventing floods, said CDRRMO head Dondon Parandas.
Floods brought about by the southwest monsoon rains had hit Bacolod early this month, inconveniencing locals.
Parandas said plastic bottles, other plastic materials and grease are the “major causes” of drainage clogging.
The grease, he added, hardens like cement that prevents water flow. The plastic reinforces this.
The city government had already approved flood control projects to address Bacolod’s flooding problem.
CDRRMO administrative officer Bernadette Montelibano said the city has allocated P10 million for the construction, rehabilitation and improvement of Bacolod’s drainage system. (With a report from PIA/PN)
