BACOLOD City – The city government has deferred the registration of pets following the three-day pet identification (ID) or the digital registration from April 4 to 6.

The said registration of dogs and cats was part of the 1st Pet Festival in this city that officially opened on March 29.

The City Veterinary Office (CVO) earlier said that the registration aims to store the digital records of dogs and cats, including the vaccination and the owner through the use of a quick response (QR) code.

According to Dr. John Michael Cabuguason, the assistant city veterinarian, after the pet festival they decided to put the registration on hold because they need to assess its result.

“We need to study first if there is any problem regarding the implementation of the program. Then we have to submit a report to the Mayor’s Office for feedback… either to modify the program or to proceed in full launching,” Cabuguason said.

He added that the three-day registration only targeted 100 dogs and cats but it reached 301 registrants.

Meanwhile, Cabuguason said the pet festival was successful.

“The event, he said, has not only benefited the city but also the animal welfare groups that have acquired donations and have sold their merchandise.

Also part of the festival was the vaccination for dogs and cats in barangays./PN
