Bacolod eyes satellite markets

BACOLOD City – In a bid to provide displaced vendors a decent place to sell their goods, the city government here intends to put up two new public markets.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the plan to establish two more satellite markets will provide spaces to more vendors that could not be accommodated by the existing public markets.

“Bacolod is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. We are expanding and soon we will have other growth areas,” the mayor said.

According to Leonardia, the President’s directive to clear the roads from obstructions will pave the way for Bacolod to open “other growth areas” in the city.

He added that there are available properties in Barangays Alijis and Mansilingan that can become potential markets aimed to accommodate displaced vendors.

“We are doing our best to be able to find new markets for the vendors,” Leonardia said.

Aside from the satellite markets, the city government is also eyeing to construct an eastbound terminal in Barangay Mansilingan./PN
