MANILA – Bacolod Master Sardines’ losing run in the 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup continues. It lost, 66-67, to Marikina Shoemasters at the Marist School in Marikina City.
Actually, the Master Sardines had a chance to ice the win; it was on top, 66-65, with 10 seconds left but Benedict Adamos missed his two free throws. Shoemasters’ Von Tamberling did not waste the opportunity; he scored a game winning layup.
It was the seventh consecutive defeat for the expansion team Master Sardines. It thus dropped further in the South Division standings with a 6-15 record.
The Shoemasters surged to a 23-9 start in the match to lead by as much as 20 points but the Master Sardines showed some life in the third period; it chopped the deficit to 48-54.
Bacolod continued its run in the fourth quarter behind Adamos and Nico Paolo Javelona to take a 61-60 edge before it turned into a seesaw battle with the Master Sardines tasting the lead for the last time at 66-65 on an Adamos hit.
For the Shoemasters (4-17), Tamberling finished the match with 16 points while Daryl Pascual and Matthew Gines had 11 markers apiece.
Javelona tallied 17 points, while Mikee Reyes chipped in 12 markers for the slumping Master Sardines./PN
